Mission and Vision
Our Mission: To be the public policy advocate for the independent Texas EMS provider.
Our Vision: To advance the EMS profession with a unified voice and improve health for all Texans.
ATEMSP formed in 2015 during the 84th Texas Legislative Session.
Two bills were proposed that would expand the paramedic scope of practice within hospitals. A grassroots effort rallied EMS providers at the state capitol and advocacy for the bills ensued throughout the legislative session. Both bills were passed and entered into law on June 19, 2015.
The grassroots initiative developed into an official association committed to representing the individual Texas EMS provider within all sectors of EMS. ATEMSP expanded and experienced continued legislative success during the 85th Texas Legislative Session and continued its growth as a professional association.
ATEMSP experienced growing pains following the 2017 legislative session. Several key leaders departed from the association and organizational expansion created new issues requiring training in nonprofit management. In 2018, ATEMSP appointed its first Executive Director to assist with nonprofit management, appointed a new president, and reorganized for the 86th Texas Legislative Session.
ATEMSP continues its growth as a professional association advocating for the individual Texas EMS provider. The executive board is committed to long-term, sustainable practices and is now trained in nonprofit management. New programs and initiatives and constantly being produced to best achieve the organization's mission.
